Expatriate Offers his Land &;amp; Builds New House to Disable War Hero at SVAB Request

To coincide with the ongoing ‘Ranaviru’ month (May 19-June 19), a newly-built complete house, a donation made by Switzerland-based Mr. Lasantha Gunawardane in memory of his late father and in order to invoke blessings on his mother, was symbolically handed over to the disable War Hero, Sergeant K.P. Sugath of 9 Gemunu Watch (9 GW) during a brief ceremony in Elpitiya area.

The six million worth house, constructed in a 40 perch extent of the donor’s own land, under the auspices of Ven. Elle Gunawansa Thera’s co-ordination, was declared open by Mrs. Manjulika Jayasuriya, President Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) who has thrown the full weight behind the SVAB project for such constructions for War Heroes. She graced the occasion on 22nd May as Chief Guest with several senior SVAB members including Mrs. Chintha Udumalagala, Chairperson, Gemunu Watch Seva Vanitha Unit.

Ground preparations and other cleaning work on the plot were carried out by fellow-soldiers of the Gemunu Watch (GW) before the foundation stone was laid. The ceremony attended by Major General S. Udumalagala, Colonel of the GW Regiment, a large gathering of invitees, next of kin of the recipient and other well wishers were associated with the opening ceremony.
