The joint Tri-service Mega Field Training Exercise (FTX), 'Exercise - Cormorant Strike IX - 2018', one more notable annual project, organized by the Army for the 9th consecutive year with 2500 Army, 400 Sailors and 200 Airmen, including 100 foreign military participants and observers, will formally begin tomorrow (7) covering the Eastern, Central, Western and North Central Provinces.
Preparatory induction ceremony of the ‘Exercise’ was inaugurated this morning (6) at Minneriya Operational Headquarters where a representative gathering of participants had assembled before the mock operation, (FTX) proper at ground level gets underway.
Using special operational tactics, those 2500 Infantrymen, including largely the Commandos, Special Forces and Mechanized Infantry Regiment troops of the Army, 400 Sailors and 200 Airmen, together with those foreign military representatives and observers from Australia, Bangladesh, Brazil, China, France, Japan, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Russia, Singapore, Sudan, Turkey, UK, USA and Zambia are scheduled to join the mega Exercise during specific locations as directed by the Director, FTX.
Through execution of 20 special operation missions, the participants are expected to perform core tasks as specified and incorporated in the mock operations until it reaches culmination.
Major General Niyshshanka Ranawana, Commander, Security Forces - Kilinochchi, works as the Exercise Director, together with Brigadier Krishantha Gnanarathne, Commando Brigade Commander and Colonel Upul Ihalage, Commander Special Forces Brigade who serve as Deputy Directors in the Exercise.
The Field Training Exercise terminates with the ‘Critical Engagement’ on September 26 at Kuchchaveli, a day prior to the closing ceremony.
