Exercise Continues with Simulated Raids & Capture of Hideouts

Troops of the Special Forces during the mock ‘Exercise - Cormorant Strike’, currently underway in the eastern region, conducted simulated raids on strong enemy fortifications and a safe-house in the general area of Shardapura, Welikanda as segments of the Exercise.

The Exercise is attended by a record number of tri-service personnel, together with 69 foreign participants and is reaching its final stage before it concludes on Sunday (24) at Minneriya after a brief ceremony.

Troops engaged in the mock raid at Welikanda captured enemy leaders alive and took them away to the operational headquarters with the support of Air Force personnel.

A similar mock Exercise, carried out earlier by Commandos of the air mobile raid team, together with members of the Sri Lanka Air Force struck at an enemy stronghold in Batticaloa area and captured enemy hide-outs.

Meanwhile, undergraduates of the Defence Services Command and Staff College and Officer Cadets of the Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) made an educational tour to the Exercise Headquarters at Minneriya, recently and learnt more about operational aspects of the Exercise.

In the meantime, foreign participants in the Exercise visited the SLMA on Monday (19) and had a brief interaction with the instructors and Cadets at the SLMA.

A few more demonstrations on Friday (22) and Saturday (23) will bring the mock Exercise - 2017 to an end.
