Exam Candidates Receive Meals

CIVIL-ARMY relations in the Jaffna peninsula are getting further strengthened day by day as the Army after assessing ground realities has come forward to assist the students, too.

Towards the end of December 2009, 521 and 523 Brigade troops under 52 Division visited several schools in their areas and donated gift parcels and lunch packets to candidates sitting the GCE (O/L) examination. Gift parcels contained exercise books, pens, instrument boxes, drawing books, etc that can be used by students for their examination work and further studies.

Troops of 3rd Battalion, Vijayaba Infantry Regiment (VIR) who were instrumental in getting the programme organized gave away those lunch packets and gift parcels among schools in Nagarkovil area.

In fact lunch for those candidates was served  from 8th December to 21st December, the final day of the Examination. Commanding Officer, officers and other ranks of the battalion contributed to this project.

Meanwhile, the troops in the same battalion provided lunch to kids at Moonai Keshagam pre-school on 21st December as a token of their goodwill.  Similarly, on 8th December troops conducted a self-help campaign with the participation of civilians.  They all cleaned the road patch from Katkolem to Moonai. Troops also provided lunch for the civilians who participated in it.

In the meantime, Army personnel, attached to 10th Battalion, Gamunu Watch under 523 Brigade gifted educational accessories to the students at several schools in Nunavil area who sat for the GCE (O/L). They were also provided lunch by the troops on that day. The Commanding Officer, officers and other ranks of the battalion participated in the occasion.
