Ex-Servicemen's 'Remembrance Day' Ceremony Lays Wreaths at Cenotaph


Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen’s Association organized ‘Remembrance Day’ and commemoration service took place at the Vihara Maha Devi Park War Memorial on Sunday (11) with the participation of a number of senior officers, both retired and still serving.

Religious observances of all four major denominations, replete with chanting of stanzas, Bhagavad Githa and Upanishad and prayers of Islamic and Christian traditions, commenced soon after the two-minute silence plus playing of the ‘The Last Post’.

After laying floral wreaths at the cenotaph by the Chief Guest, President, Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen’s Association (SLESA), senior tri-service officers, diplomatic corps, family members of servicemen killed in action, war veterans, disable servicemen and representatives of different affiliated associations, the ceremony had its customary March Past.

This annual event is held in sacred memory of all those who gave their lives in the defence of motherland including those who perished during war world wars I and II.
