Ex-‘Highlanders’ Meet at Kuruwita

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Gemunu Watch Ex-Servicemen’s Regimental Association (GWESRA) was held on Sunday (26) at the Gemunu Watch (GW) Regimental Centre in Kuruvita with the participation of a large number of members of the Association.

Members of the GWESRA were received by the staff at the Regimental Centre at the entrance to the Kuruwita camp and conducted in a procession to the Regimental Rana Viru Memorial where a wreath-laying ceremony took place in memory of gallant servicemen who had paid the supreme sacrifice in the fight against terrorism before 2009.

The general meeting commenced after the memorial ceremony and lasted till evening.

Meanwhile, the GWESRA President, Brigadier Hiran N Halanagode (Retd), opened the renovated office complex of the GWESRA in the GW regimental premises as the Chief Guest. After the meeting, the members visited the newly- renovated GW museum.

Afterwards, the members were hosted to lunch at the Major General Kulathunga Swimming Pool Site as a symbol of goodwill.

Executive members and a large number of other ex-servicemen of the GWESRA, the Centre Commandant of the GW, senior Officers, Officers and Other Rankers attended the AGM in Kuruwita.
