Engineers' 'SALEBA' Opened in Grand Ceremony

Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army at the invitation of Major General Udaya Nanayakkara, Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE) on Thursday (11) ceremonially opened the newly-erected SLE swimming pool, ‘SALEBA’, the Sappers’ Leisure Bay at Mattegoda SLE Headquarters.
 
The SALEBA, the much-needed requirement for SLE troops as a recreational network, is to be further expanded and equipped with a range of other facilities such as a banquet hall, tennis court, squash court, golf pitch, indoor gymnasium, fishing club, remote control club, endurance course facility unit, walking and riding track, game zone and a few other spheres for rest and recreational purposes.
 
Major General Udaya Nanayakkara during the ceremony honoured the visiting Commander of the Army by offering him the life-time membership to the SALEBA.
 
An exhibition swimming demonstration, conducted in the new swimming pool after its inauguration, attracted the attention of the visitors to the occasion amidst applause.
 
Major General Nanayakkara towards the end of the brief ceremony thanked the Commander as well as those who sweated to make the swimming pool a reality within a short span of time.
 
A large gathering of retired SLE officers, committee members of the SLE Association, serving officers and other ranks of the SLE and invitees were present at the opening ceremony.
