Elle Players in SLAC & 6 (V) SLAWC Shine in Tournament

Elle players of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) and 6 (V) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) respectively secured championship trophies in the Inter Regiment Elle tournament (men) and Inter Battalion Elle tournament (women) in the finals played on Thursday (24) at Gajaba Regimental Headquarters Sports Grounds, Saliyapura.

SLAC players encountered Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) team but the latter ended up as the runners-up in the final round. Similarly, in the women’s category 6 (V) SLAWC and 5 (V) SLAWC, vied for supremacy.

However, 6 (V) SLAWC emerged victorious and pushed 5 (V) SLAWC players to the runners-up slot.

The preliminary matches started last week where male teams from 13 regiments and 3 teams from the SLAWC completed for the trophies.

Private K.A.S.R Perera of SLAC secured the award for the best all-rounder (men) while Lance Corporal A.D Kumara and Lance Corporal M.G.D Nimantha of SLAC were respectively adjudged the highest scorer and the one who took the most number of catches in the men’s category.

Private M.T Manathunga of 6 (V) SLAWC was chosen as the best all rounder in women’s category. Private M.N.L Damayanthi of 5 (V) SLAWC won the award for the most number of catches and Private H.M Herath of 2 (V) SLAWC won the highest scorer’s award. The match was judged by judges of Sri Lanka Elle Association judges.

Major General Udaya Perera, Chairman Sri Lanka Army Elle Committee participated in the awarding ceremony as the Chief Guest.

General Officer Commanding, 21 Division, senior officers and other ranks were present in the awarding ceremony.
