EIGHT TIGERS MISERABLY FAIL IN THEIR MISSION

EAST: CLOSE on the heels of the humiliating military defeat in the north, a five-member team of Tiger terrorists who might have slipped into the eastern PERIYAPILLUMALAI area, BATTICALOA miserably failed their terrorist mission early Wednesday (20) morning at about 6.15 a.m. when 232 Brigade troops shot them down.

The routine surveillance carried out daily by the troops was reaching PERIYAPILLUMALAI area when they suddenly observed a suspicious movement on the roadside. As they were taking necessary precautions, hiding gunmen suddenly opened fire towards the troops.

Troops immediately countered the fire-power of the enemy and moved into the hide-out of the gunmen while directing fire. Troops later found dead bodies of five Tigers along with two T-56 weapons, one hand grenade, eleven anti personnel mines, six ammunition magazines, two improvised explosive devices, two mobile phones and one belt order.

Meanwhile, late last night (19) Army troops on patrol in KACHIKUDICHCHIARU, AMPARA struck three more Tiger terrorists while they were trying to carry out another criminal activity. Those three terrorists were carrying three T-56 weapons, three hand grenades, two claymore mines, detonator code and a medical pack. They were recovered later along with those items.

Police have commenced investigations and the post mortem is to be conducted shortly on dead Tigers.
