East Troops Renovate Abandoned School & Enable Its Re-Opening

23 Division and 231 Brigade troops in collaboration with 4 Gemunu Watch, 11 (V) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and 6 Gajaba Regiment jointly supported the re-opening of the abandoned Wellawadiya Sinhala Maha Vidyalaya after converting it to be the Siri Seelalankara Primary Pirivena in Kalkudah, Batticaloa on Tuesday (1).

The same Pirivena had earlier existed in the Wellawadiya Sinhala Maha Vidyalaya premises but the school remained closed for about 10 years due to lack of students. An initiative, taken by Ven Dimbulagala Dewalankara Thero of the Dimbulagala Temple with the support of Ven Narampanawe Ananda Nayake Thero of the Asgiriya Chapter, prompted the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) to assist its renovation work enabling it to re-open for commencement of the Pirivena for the benefit of all students in the region.

On the instructions given by the Commander, Security Forces - East, Major General Senarath Bandara, troops of the 231 Brigade, together with above-mentioned battalions on the guidelines given by Major General Dhammika Jayasundara, General Officer Commanding, 23 Division completed the renovation project with the support of philanthropists who coordinated with the Buddhist monk.

The re-opening ceremony on Wednesday (1) was headed by Governor of the Eastern Province Mrs Anuradha Yahampath as the Chief Guest. During the opening ceremony, Ven. Dimbulagala Dewalankara Thero commended the Army support for its renovation and facilitation of the opening ceremony.

Major General Dhammika Jayasundara, General Officer Commanding, 23 Division, Major General Priyanka Fernando, General Officer Commanding, 58 Division, Colonel Janaka Pallekumbura, Commander, 231 Brigade and several other invitees attended the opening event. bridgemedia | NIKE HOMME
