East troops under the 22 Division in order to protect the student community from COVID-19 and Dengue threats carried out a thorough disinfection and cleaning programmes covering 52 schools in Trincomalee district during 19 June - 3 July with the participation of more than 100 troops.
On the guidelines given by the Commander, Security Forces - East, 221, 222 and 223 Brigade troops of the 22 Division, commanded by Major General Channa Weerasooriya, General Officer Commanding, 22 Division visited all those 52 schools in the Trincomalee district and disinfected the school premises in coordination with the Provincial Department of Education in Trincomalee.
Policemen in Trincomalee, Civil Security Department personnel serving Serunuwara, Gomarankadawala and Kantale areas, Regional Medical Officers, staff at the Governor’s secretariat, school principals, teachers and parents joined hands with Army troops, engaged in the project which took more than 14 days for completion.
