East Commander Speaks to Leaders in Civil Society

Intending to meet all leading segments of religious and community leaders, intellectuals, social service activists, educationists, health promoters, environmentalists, et al in respective areas under the responsibility of the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E), the newly-appointed Commander, Security Forces - East (SF-E), Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, got a meeting of leading personnel organized through the good offices of Dr Vinya Ariyarathne, General Secretary, Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement who also requested a forum of that nature be arranged in order to promote goodwill and understanding.

The meeting, organized on 28 December 2016 at Sarvodaya Education Development Institute and Farm at Sathurukondan, Batticalloa was attended by a gathering of more than 45 invitees. Commander, SF-E presided the occasion at the invitation of the organizers.

The forum in general focused on social, religious, agricultural, residential, economic and other pertinent matters of importance to the general public in those respective areas. Several attendees spelt out their concerns during the meeting, which was the first of its kind after the incumbent Commander in the East took office.

Towards the end of the meeting, Major General Hettiarachchi in his speech to the occasion underlined the importance of maintaining harmony and ethnic unity in the region and reaching economic goals, meant to alleviate poverty and promote living conditions, considering all those challenges of the public as a collective responsibility of all segments in society.

Major General H.W.S.D.B Pananwala, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 23 Division, Brigadier L.M Mudalige, GOC 24 Division and Brigadier N.D.S.P Niwunhella, Commander 231 Brigade were also associated with the meeting.
