East-Based Troops on Many Civil & Military Oriented Roles

Troops serving under the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) on the instructions of Commander of the Army launched a variety of programmes under the guidance of Major General  K. M. U. Wijerathne, Commander, Security Forces - East  (SF- E) in the  past few days.

A new accommodation facility designed for Army civil employees at Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) was declared open by the Commander, SF-E on April 21 fulfilling long-felt requirement. It was accomplished by the troops in SFHQ - E following the directions given by the Commander SF- E.  

On the same day, a get-together for family members of officers and other ranks serving the SFHQ - E was organized on a proposal made by the Commander SF- E considering new year holiday spirits.  

A series of features including musical sessions, dancing sessions and visits to important places in the area got underway as segments of the progarmme for visiting family members and others.

Meanwhile, a 30-working day English course designed to enhance the knowledge of English among East-based officers by the 23 Division on the directions of the Commander SF - E concluded on April 27 at the 23 Division HQ premises after a brief ceremony.

Officers serving under SFHQ - E participated in the course.

In the meantime, SFHQ - E organized a workshop for officers and other ranks in Divisions, Brigades, Units and all formations on ‘International Humanitarian Law and Contemporary Challenges’ during April 25-26 with the support of the Directorate of Human Rights & Humanitarian Law and the International Committee of the Red Cross.

The opening address was conducted by Major General D.D.U.K. Hettiarachchi, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 23 Division at the inauguration.

The workshop was conducted by Brigadier General (Retd) Lloyd Gillett OBE, ICRC Regional Delegate to the Armed and Security Force of Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Brigadier D.M.S Dissanayake, Brigadier General Staff (BGS) at SFHQ – E together with Officers and others participated in the programme.

Meanwhile, the SFHQ - E  organized Basic Computer Course No 1 for the year 2016 has been on since last Monday (25) at the SFHQ - E premises in cooperation with tutorial support of the the Orient Academy Limited.

In the meantime, the opening address of this 21 day-long computer course was delivered by Brigadier D. M. S. Dissanayaka, BGS at SFHQ- E.

Meanwhile, one more New Year festival was organized by the troops in the 233 Brigade  serving under the 23 Division and the SFHQ- E at Pradeshiya Saba Public ground at Vakarai under the guidance of SF Commander – East, on  April 28.

The event was graced by Major General D.D.U.K Hettiarachchi, GOC, 23 Division together with Mrs S. Rahulnayagi, Divisional Secretary, North Vakarai, Brigade Commanders and Commanding Officers of the 23 Division area as distinguished guests.

Many traditional and fun-making games and events, including pot cracking, pillow fighting, tug of war, fancy dress and selection of the New Year princess and prince, etc dominated the flow of the programme.

Troops serving the 24 Division meanwhile, organized a lunch for the inmates at the ‘elders home’ in Ampara on the directions of Major General P.M.R Bandara, GOC, 24 Division recently to coincide with New Year festival season.

All the elderly parents were offered ration packets including milk powder and tea packets with the sponsorship provided by the of GOC and all ranks in the  24 Division.
