East-Based Troops Launch Multiple Public Projects


Shramadana (self-help) campaigns, organized in Lahugala, Panichchankerny, Pulipanchikal as well as awareness programmes for potential job seekers and vulnerable victims of human-elephant conflict in Thirukkovil, Dimbulagala and Yakkure areas during the past few days drew large crowds to work hand in hand with troops, serving the 232 Brigade, 242 Brigade and 233 Brigade under the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E).

23 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment troops under the 242 Brigade in Komari cleaned the surroundings at Panama Hospital in Lahugala with the support of hospital staff during a separate programme.

Similarly, 3 Sri Lanka National Guard troops of 233 Brigade in Vakarai joined hands together with civilians and cleaned up the coastal beach areas of Sallathivu in Panichchankerny during a huge Shramadana campaign.

Reconstructing and preparing the road patch from Pulipanchikal to Kiran, 8 Sri Lanka National Guard troops of the 232 Brigade joined hands together with civilians during another Shramadana on Tuesday (28).

In two other programmes, 12 Sri Lanka National Guard (12SLNG) troops in Komari conducted a job consultation session for the benefit of unemployed youths in Thirukkovil area with the support of the J.S Bimsara Jobnet (Pvt) Ltd in Kurunegala.

Out of 63 youngsters appeared for the interviews, held at Thirukkovil Kalyanathivu Tamil School, 51 young men were offered jobs in and around the Eastern Province and Kurunegala, Dambulla areas.

Meanwhile, 3 Sri Lanka Women’s Corps (3 SLAWC) of the SFHQ-E on Thursday (23) educated rural villagers on preventive measures against intrusion of wild elephants into their habitats. The event at Yakkure Public Hall with the support of Forest Officials and Wildlife Rangers attracted more than 300 villagers in the area.

Meanwhile, 18 SLSR troops in Kalladi under the 232 Brigade conducted a special pooja at Kurukkalmadam Kovil on account of Thaipongal on Tuesday (14).
