Dual Operative Huge Claymore Found on Nallur Kovil Rd

JAFFNA : Security Forces after they were tipped off by a civilian succeeded in detecting a huge 25 kg weighty claymore mine from the general area of JAFFNA, this afternoon (9) whilst it remained set to blast at a specific given time.

The rare detection, believed to have been brought to the area by Tiger (LTTE) terrorists with the intention of carrying out a massive carnage against Security Forces and civilians, was one of the largest mines that was ever recovered by the Security Forces in JAFFNA peninsula.

Security Forces in a quick search and clear operation on NALLUR Temple Road, NALLUR, JAFFNA were able to spot the claymore mine that could be activated both remote or manual according to the requirement.

Troops believe that terrorists would have smuggled the claymore into the location frequented largely by Hindu devotees and other civilians on a daily basis.

The timely detection averted a major tragedy. The JAFFNA Police investigations are on.
