15 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) troops of the 511 Brigade of the 51 Division in Kopay under the Security Force Headquarters- Jaffna (SFHQ-J) extending their hands of friendship to civilians when in trouble began a project to provide drinking water to them due to the prevailing spell of drought and shortage of water in the peninsula.
Army water bowsers with the intention of assisting drought-hit civilians commenced filling roadside plastic tanks and their personal utensils after the difficulty was brought to the notice of the 511 Brigade where more than 3620 civilians of 1102 families are residing in the area. The humanitarian project started on Monday (23) after its gravity was evaluated.
The community service, launched with the guidance of the Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna and under the supervision of Major General Roshan Senevirathne, General Officer Commanding, 51 Division, is being carried out on a regular basis by 15 SLNG troops, commanded by 511 Brigade Commander.
