HE the President's office with a view to assisting disabled War Heroes under recuperation and rehabilitation at wellness resorts, such as 'Abimansala', 'Mihindu Seth Medura' and 'Ranaviru Sevana' ,donated a stock of 100 pairs of crutches and 10 wheelchairs on account of the full moon Poya Day during a symbolic ceremony at the MoD premises this evening (10).
Mr Rakitha Rajapakse, Media Secretary to HE the President, in a symbolic gesture of generosity and magnanimity and his high regard for disabled War Heroes, has used his entire accumulated salary for 2 years ( Rs 750,000) for the project after collecting the salary in a separate account. He has also completed two years in office by this date as the President's Media Secretary. Ministry of Defence coordinated the donation programme.
The brief ceremony saw the donor hand over a few of them symbolically to three disabled tri-service War Heroes who were present at the event.
Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Engineer Karunasena Hettiarachchi, Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Mr R.M.S Sarath Kumara, Commanders of the Army, Navy and Air Force and President's Coordinating Secretary Mr Palitha Pelpola were also associated with the event.
Military Liaison Officer of the Ministry of Defence, Brigadier D.A.R Ranawaka, Officers and differently able beneficiaries attended the brief occasion.
