Dialog League Rugby 2016/2017 Inaugurated

Dialog Division ‘A’ Inter-Club Rugby League Tournament 2016/2017 kicked off last Friday (04) and will continue until the mid of January.

Eight teams are set to compete in the Dialog Division ‘A’ Inter-Club Rugby League Tournament for 2016/2017.

This year’s Army’s first match and last match of the opening week saw Army sports club hosting CR at Race Course International Rugby stadium on Sunday (06). Army team was led by Captain Corporal S.A.M. De Silva and Vice Captain Rifleman K.I.D Ariyapala.

The team consisted of the coach, Mr Serit Verybula, Physical Trainer, Mr Ratu Imanuali Mumulovo, Assistant Coach, and Team Manager, Captain Nishal Meepagala and Backline Assistant Coach, Sergeant Asanka Perera. Captain Tharaka served as the physician in the team.

Chairman of the Army Rugby Major General Sunil Wanniarachchi and Secretary of Army Rugby Lieutenant Colonel Bathiya Jayaweera were present to watch the first match.

At present, 65 Army players had received registration in the Sri Lanka Rugby Federation (SLRF) and all of them had undergone training.

From the start of the game, both teams made their intentions of playing a territorial game as they favoured to kick in the territory rather than from a retaining position.

Army players on the other hand looked solid in their premises with some forward wining impressive lineouts and the backs.

CR & FC in however won the match 25-24 in a keenly contested game.
