Deceased Soldier’s New House Equipped with Furniture

At the request of the 62 Division Headquarters of the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W), a stock of furniture to the value of about Rs 98,000/= was gifted to the family members of late Private Mahesh Kumara of 5 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) on Sunday (5) in Ethawetunuwewa village, thanks to the sponsorship, provided by the Arya Foundation in Colombo.

Earlier, following initiatives of Major General B.H.M.A Wijesinghe, General Officer Commanding, 62 Division, a new house was built for the helpless family since the soldier in question suddenly died of a heart attack several months ago while they were living in a dilapidated hut in one corner of their own land. The house construction was also supported by the Arya Foundation by providing raw materials as the deceased’s own SLNG Regiment troops, together with 14 (V) Sri Lanka Light Infantry offered their technical and labour assistance to the project and completed its construction.

General S.H.S Kottegoda (Rtd), a former Commander of the Army on hearing the requirement of the new house, along with members of the Arya Foundation - Colombo, provided their patronage to get new furniture for the house to the value of Rs 98,000/= as it was a serious need.

The donation was coordinated by the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 62 Division, Major General B.H. M. A Wijesinghe. Officers and other ranks of the 62 Division together with 14 (V) Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) and 17 (V) Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) Battalions organized the event for distribution of those furniture to the bereaved family.

Former Commander of the Army General S.H.S Kottegoda (Rtd), General Officer Commanding, 62 Division, Major General B.H. M. A Wijesinghe, Brigade Commander, 622 Brigade, Members of Arya Foundation - Colombo, villagers at Ethawetunuwewa, senior officers, officers and a group of other ranks from under command Brigades and Battalions attended the occasion.
