The Curtain Falls on Defence Services Games 2010

Closing Ceremony and presentation of awards for the winners of the Defence Services Games (DSG) 2010 was held Friday (1) at Sugathadasa Stadium Colombo with Secretary of Defence Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa gracing the ceremony as Chief Guest.

The Chief Guest was warmly welcomed by the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Air Force Air Chief Marshal Roshan Gunathilake on arrival. The Closing ceremony started rolling with an elegant dance performed by the dancers of all tri forces followed by lighting of the traditional oil lamp by the Chief Guest accompanied by Chief of Defence Staff and Commanders of Army and Navy. Air Vice Marshal W. A. Silva, Chairman Organizing Committee delivered the welcome address.

The Closing Ceremony took the atmosphere of a cultural pageant as many renowned artists backed by the musical bands and dancers of tri forces entertained the audience in the midst of the award ceremony.

The Secretary Defence Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa gave away the Commander-in-Chief Challenge Trophy to the Winning Service and the Secretary Defence Challenge Trophy to the runners up.

Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya awarded the Commander of the Army Challenge Trophy to the best individual performer amongst the Sri Lanka Army Sports contingent.  Lieutenant General Jayasuriya also gave away trophies and shields to the winners of Kabaddi, Karate, Netball, Rugby, Soccer, Shooting and Squash at the DSG.

Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Air Force Air Chief Marshal Roshan Gunathilake and Vice Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe Commander of the Navy also gave away awards.

As the tri forces bands rent the air with the National Anthem the Defence Services Games-2010 came to a close.
