The cultural spectacle, ‘Sanhindiyawai - Sangrama Shakthiyayi’, a tribute to invaluable services and heroic acts of War Heroes of tri services, Police and the Civil Security Department, got underway at the Independence Square Wednesday (14) evening, amidst a distinguished gathering, headed by HE the President Maithripala Sirisena, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

The appreciative tribute, organized by Ministry of Defence as a symbolic recognition that salutes the greatness found in the ‘Ranaviruwa’ and his never-ending humanitarian services, has been themed on a conceptual notion, proposed by HE the President. The arrangement is considered an addition to the annual Victory Day commemoration ceremony that takes place every year on May 19.

Cultural troupes of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Police and Civil Security Department joined hands together to stage this spectacular cultural show which was also staged last year on the same lines under the theme, ‘Sanhidiyawe Piyasatahan’.

The event, which artistically highlighted the prosperity of the motherland, current development drive and foreign relations, achievement of expected development goals, etc, included eye-catching presentations of foreign dancing forms, demonstrated by artistes in the services.

A two-minute silence in memory of War Heroes, conduct of a procession and the singing of the Ranaviru tribute song set the stage ready for the event after distinguished invitees arrived at the venue.

The glittering show, graced by HE the President as the Chief Guest, was witnessed by Minister Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, several Ministers, State Minister of Defence, Defence Secretary, Army and Air Force Commanders, Inspector General of Police, Chairperson, Ranaviru Seva Authority and a group of invitees, including disabled War Heroes of tri services, Police and the Civil Security Department.
