Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna (SFHQ - J) organized a cricket tournament for all clubs in the peninsula with the intention of popularizing the game among the youth in the area.
The 20/20 cricket tournament received an overwhelming response from the clubs as 18 teams consented to take part in the team. In addition, teams from the tri-services and the Police came forward to try their luck. A tournament of this nature was conducted in Jaffna after absence of more than thirty years. First round of the matches took place separately at Jaffna Central College ground, Jaffna Hindu College ground, Kokuvil Hindu College ground, St. Patrick College ground and at the Jaffna University ground between July 31 - August 1, 2010.
The second round was played during the weekend (August 7 - 8) in separate five cricket grounds in Jaffna.
Sri Lanka Air Force team became qualified to play for the semi finals beating S.K.K.C. Sports Club by 127 runs and will meet the SF HQ-J team which has outscored Central Sports Club by 5 wickets at the semi finals on 14th instant at St. Patrick College ground, Jaffna.
Jonians Sports Club in Jaffna beat the Central Light Sports Club by 5 wickets to qualify for the semi-finals where they will play against Sri Lanka Navy (Kankasanthurai) who beat Ariyalai Cricket Club by 7 wickets, in the same afternoon at the same venue.
Two defeated teams in semis will play on 13th August morning at the same venue for the third place.
The finals will be played at Jaffna Central Grounds on 16th August afternoon on a grand scale with the participation of the Jaffna Commander as the Chief Guest.
