Commandos' Novel 4 x 4 Expedition Ends in Triumphant Note at Kudaoya

Sri Lanka Army’s most novel project, ‘4 x 4 Expedition 2014’ - ‘Experience Sri Lanka with Commandos’, that covered a distance of 720 km along the eastern coastal belt, commencing from Jaffna on August 3, ended on Saturday (9) on a triumphant note after reaching Kudaoya Commando Training School.    
 
The thrilling expedition, organized for the first time in the history of the Army as well as in the Commando Regiment (CR) itself took 6 days covering Jaffna, Nayaru-Dehiwatta, Arugambay and Kudaoya with a fleet of 29 4 x 4 (four wheel) vehicles, owned by civilians in the civil sector.
 
Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army was invited to see the final Challenge Event at the Kudaoya track as the Chief Guest of the day by Major General Prasanna Silva, Colonel of the Regiment, CR.
 
The expedition attracted  4 wheel vehicles which are confident in driving along sandy beaches and capable of crossing Manalkadu sand dunes, Chalai lagoons, muddy roads, narrow paths, dense jungles and rural villages, along the Eastern coastal belt until the expedition reached its climax upon, reaching Kudaoya for the Challenge Event.
 
The novel expedition, designed under five legs; Point Pedro to Kokkuthuduvai (148 km), Kokkuthuduvai to Dehiwatta (128 km), Dehiwatta to Thoppigala (120 km), Thoppigala to Arugam Bay (182 km) and Arugam Bay to Uva Kudaoya CR Training School (178 km) was open to 4 x 4 standard vehicles, 4 x 4 modified class vehicles and medium duty and heavy duty sport utility vehicles who enjoyed this first-ever motor expedition of this type in Sri Lanka getting a sensational excitement.
 
Lieutenant General Ratnayake as the Chief Guest after the Challenge Event gave away awards to both winners in standard and stream events at the Kudaoya track. Air Tickets, Trophies and valuable gifts were included as incentives in the first-ever expedition that added a new feather to the Army family of motor vehicle events.
