Commander Speaks High of RSMs’ Roles

Focused on a new dimension as regards roles and tasks of Senior Non Commissioned Officers (SNCOs), a group of 178 Regimental Sergeants Major (RSMs) who just completed a three-day (15-17 February) resident workshop on ‘Leadership and Team Spirits Development’ received certificates of completion from the conceptual proposer of the project, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Army at Kukuleganga ‘Laya Leisure’ premises on Saturday (17) during a ceremony.

The arrangement, organized by the Directorate of Personnel Administration on the guidelines given by the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake gathered those RSMs together perhaps for the first time after each of them joined the Army as Other Rankers and became RSMs.

The professional staff at ‘Laya Leisure’ with the support of outside experts delivered lectures on different themes such as, ‘leadership’, ‘innovative thinking’, ‘leadership qualities’, ‘enhancement of personnel build-up’, ‘team work and collective individual responsibility’, ‘competitiveness’, ‘tolerance’, etc in addition to a series of practical training programmes inside the ‘Laya Leisure’ Kukuleganga adventure park. Those RSMs during their three-day stay took part in adventurous balancing acts, mountain climbing, rope balancing, hurdle racing, tug of war, etc.

The inaugural address on the first day (15, February) at the workshop was delivered by Major General Shavendra Silva, Adjutant General at the Army Headquarters who also contributed to the success of the arrangement.

Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Army on Saturday (17) as the Chief Guest for the awarding ceremony distributed certificates of participation to those 178 attendees. In his brief address to the occasion, the Commander of the Army explained why he thought of assembling so many RSMs under one roof and exposed them for training session of this nature. He also lauded vital roles and tasks being performed by those SNCOs in a very vibrant manner in specific formations.

Major General Amal Karunasekara, Chief of Staff at the Army, Brigadier Devinda Perera, Director Personnel Administration, Senior Officers and Other Ranks were present during the certificate awarding ceremony.
