Commander at SLE Headquarters Extols Dedication of Army Engineers

A four-digit number of officers and other ranks of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE) who are actively sweating to rebuild the country’s post-war infrastructure with their unmatched vocational skills, assembled together at Panagoda SLE Regimental Headquarters on Friday (14) to listen to the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake who made his first visit to the SLE Regimental Headquarters after he took office.

In conformity with military formalities, a Guard Turn Out presented arms to the visiting Commander at the entrance to the SLE Headquarters after he was received by Major General Udaya Nanayakkara, Colonel Commandant, SLE.

Soon after Major General Nanayakkara, warmly welcomed the Chief Guest for the day, Lieutenant General Ratnayake was invited to the Parade ground to receive the Guard of Honour, accorded in his honour.

A few minutes later, the Commander rose to his feet addressing the packed audience, anxiously awaiting to listen to him. Lieutenant General Ratnayake told the officers and other ranks that the country has already witnessed the change, being effected by expertise of the SLE and ESR professionals as the most leading workforce in the post-conflict Sri Lanka.

‘Like in any other country in the world, you all have a responsibility towards the nation since all peace-loving people expect to live a better life under a well structured infrastructure of the best standards. The government as well as the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development is fully confiding in us to do a praiseworthy piece of work which will bring honour to the organization you serve. Your varied talents have now found recognition and appreciation through dedicated hard work,’ the Commander added.

Before the Chief Guest’s exit from the SLE Regimental Headquarters, Major General Nanayakkara presented a special memento to Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, signifying the importance of his visit to the Regimental Headquarters.

A holiday cabana resort was also opened by the Commander of the Army at the invitation of Major General Nanayakkara. The dinner night of the Regiment will take place on Monday (17).
