Commander Shares New Year Thoughts &;amp; Sweetmeats with War Heroes at MoD Built 'Mihindu Seth Medura'

Attaching more importance to a visit, organized in connection with the dawn of Sinhala and Hindu New Year, the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya soon after a brief New Year treat at Army Headquarters, visited differently able War Heroes at the MoD built, ‘Mihindu Seth Medura’ (wellness resort) Thursday (19) morning, together with his spouse, Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya.

Attidiya-Bellanthara-based ‘Mihindu Seth Medura’ (wellness resort) where a large group of permanently disable War Heroes are cared and rehabilitated for the rest of their lives was the conceptual notion of Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary Defence and Urban Development who saw this state of the art sanatorium opened by HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Commander-in -Chief of the Armed Forces about two years ago. The management of this vital wing in the post-war scenario was subsequently and smoothly transferred to the Army’s ‘Brave Hearts’ project on the directions of the Secretary Defence who was of the firm view that it was the ‘Brave Hearts’, responsible for smooth conduct of affairs at Anuradhapura ‘Abimansala’, could run this MoD erected centre of solace for disable War Heroes in a vibrant manner.

The simple but well-meaning visit to the ‘Mihindu Seth Medura’  by both Commander and his spouse, Mrs Jayasuriya, President Seva Vanitha Army Branch, saw resident inmates, extending a warm welcome to both of them since the visit of the Commander coincided with the time for sharing and caring as Sri Lankans enjoy another New Year season.

The Army Chief, off from his busy commitments, spoke freely to War Heroes and spent about an hour with them where he, together with Mrs Jayasuriya shared a cup of tea.

Lieutenant General Jayasuriya during his stay there spoke to each inmate and shared a couple of views and pleasantries before special gift parcels were distributed among them as tokens of appreciation of their service to the motherland. Accompanied by several senior officers, the Commander saw for himself how management of this sanatorium is conducted and medical therapy and rehabilitation processes are implemented for physical comfort and mental happiness of those war veterans.
