Commander, Security Forces East Takes Office

Major General Nandana Senadeera, the newly-appointed Commander, Security Forces – East (SF-E) took over his duties on Wednesday (29) in keeping with military formalities at the Security Force Headquarters – East (SFHQ-E) during a simple ceremony.

On arrival at the premises, he reviewed the Guard Turnout and received the salute of the Guard of Honour, presented by the troops of the 10 Gajaba Regiment.

Soon after he assumed his duties, the newly-appointed Commander planted a ‘Mango’ sapling in the premises before he addressed the troops at the SFHQ-E.

Afterwards, the Commander, SF-E participated in an all rank tea arrangement, together with the General Officers Commanding, Commander, FMA-E, Brigade Commanders, all Battalion Commanders and the SFHQ-E staff.

Prior to his new appointment, Major General Nandana Senadeera held the appointment of the GOC 11 Division, Kandy. He had previously commanded the 12 Division in Hambantota.

Having joined the Sri Lanka Army Regular Force in March 1984, Major General Senadeera, was posted as a Second Lieutenant to the Gajaba Regiment on 16 November 1985. During his career spanning over 33 years, he has held many Command and Staff appointments and served in many operational areas. Major General Nandana Senadeera has also attended many local and foreign professional courses during his career.

Major General Senadeera has served as a platoon Commander, Company Commander, Instructor at KDU, Commanding Officer 10 GR, General Staff Officer 1, Directorate of Training, Commanding Officer, Headquarter Battalion, Army Headquarters, the first Commandant in the Institute of Peace Support Operations Training Sri Lanka, Centre Commandant of the GR, Commandant Infantry Training Centre, Minneriya, Director, Psychological Operations, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 12 Division and the GOC, 11 Division before he was appointed the Commander SF-E.

Major General Nandana Senadeera is a Graduate of the National Defence University (NDU) in China. He has also successfully completed the training programmes in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, South Korea, Mongolia, Germany and China.

He is married to Mrs Reka Senadeera and blessed with three sons.
