Commander Receives Blessings in Anuradhapura

Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Army on Saturday (30) went to the sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya at Anuradhapura in order to pay his respect and receive religious blessings on his way back to Colombo after attending formal military ceremonies in Jaffna.

The Commander attended religious observances at the sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya, Mirisawetiya and Ruwanweliseya, together with Major General Kumudu Perera, Commander, Security Forces – Wanni (SF-W), and a few other Senior Officers after paying his obsessions to the Ven Pallegama Siriniwasabhidana Nayaka Thero, incumbent, Atamasthanadhipathi at his monastery.

Lieutenant General Senanayake offered a robe as a symbol of his respect to the sacred place while members of the Maha Sangha conducted Pirith chanting after visiting his monastery near the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya.

During the Commander’s stay there, he offered Pirikara to Ven Pallegama Siriniwasabhidana Nayaka Thero, incumbent for eight sacred places of worship (Atamasthanadhipathi) and Nuwarakalaviya Chief Sangha Nayaka and received his blessings during his audience at the incumbent’s monastery.

Later, the Commander of the Army visited Mirisawetiya and Ruwanweliseya in Anuradhapura and met respective chief incumbents in those temples Ven Eethawetunuwewe Gnanarathana Thero, Incumbent, Mirisawetiya Viharaya and Chief Incumbent of the Ruwanweliseya temple Ven. Pallegama Hemarathana Nayaka Thera respectively, received blessings during interactions.

Major General Ruwan De Silva, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 21 Division, Senior Officers and Officers were associated with his visit to the sacred city.
