Commander Questions 'Accountability' Figures; New Report to be Released to Clear the Air

‘As a response to specific paragraphs that made allegations against the military during humanitarian operations in the Darusman report, we, all in the tri-services, are now giving final touches to the compilation of a new report that will be shortly submitted to the international community, presenting exact details on how the Security Forces conducted the humanitarian operations, based on zero casualty policy,’ said Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army, addressing student officers at Sapugaskanda Defence Services Command & Staff College (DSCSC) Tuesday (29) morning.

Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya who has been invited to deliver the year’s customary address to the student officers at Defence Services Command & Staff College (DSCSC), the prestigious common academic platform that develops the professional knowledge and understanding of selected tri-service officers, both in Command and on the staff, was welcomed by Major General J.C Rambukpotha, Commandant, DSCSC.

Lieutenant General Jayasuriya during his address on ‘Transforming of Wartime Army into a peacetime Army’ touched on the question of much-talked ‘accountability’ during the humanitarian operations and how the war was conducted.

At the end of the Commander’s address, there was a question and answer session. Both local and foreign student officers posed questions and clarifications.

At the entrance to the DSCSC premises, the Commander inspected the Guard Turnout, accorded in his honour. Student officers at DSCSC presented a token memento to the Commander in appreciation of his visit and address to the occasion. Before the Commander placed the premises, he left his signature in the DSCSC VIP book as a gesture of memory.
