Commander Performs Religious Observances at Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya

Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, Commander of the Army on Saturday (7) went to the sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya at Anuradhapura in order to pay his respect and receive religious blessings upon his assumption of office as the 21st Commander of the Army.

Accompanied by Mrs Nayana De Silva, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit, the Commander attended religious observances at the foot of the sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya, together with Major General Boniface Perera, Commander, Security Force Headquarters - Wanni and a few other officers.

Lieutenant General De Silva offered a robe as a symbol of his respect to the sacred place while members of the Maha Sangha conducted Pirith chanting.

During the Commander’s stay there, he offered Pirikara and a Dagoba replica to Ven Pallegama Siriniwasabhidana Nayaka Thero, Atamasthanadhipathi and Nuwarakalaviya Chief Sangha Nayaka and received his blessings during his audience at the incumbent’s monastery.
