Commander Pays Respects to Late UN Resident Coordinator

Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Army this afternoon (2) paid his final respects to the remains of Ms Una McCauley, Sri Lanka-based UN Resident Coordinator and UN Development Programme Resident Representative in Sri Lanka who passed away a couple of days ago.

Lieutenant General Senanayake after visiting the funeral parlour at Borella condoled with next of kin of late UN Representative and staffers in her office, including Lieutenant Colonel Lal Wijegunawardane (Rtd) of the United Nations Department for Safety and Security (UNDSS) in Sri Lanka before he left his message of sympathy in the book for condolences.

Ms Una McCauley passed away last Friday (23) while on medical leave and her services were hailed and admired very much by HE the President and the Prime Minister who also visited the UN office to express their sympathies earlier in the week.

Her funeral will take place this evening (2) at the General Cemetery, Borella.
