Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Army, together with Mrs Chandrika Senanayake paid homage to the Temple of Tooth (Sri Dalada Maligawa) on Friday (24) on the eve of the final Randoli Maha Perahera that culminates the Esala festival with the dawn of the Full Moon Poya day.
The Esala Perahera festival of this historic hill town got underway during 16 - 26 August 2018 with the fullest cooperation, extended by the troops of the 11 Division in Kandy. Major General Tissa Nanayakkara, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 11 Division, accompanied the Commander during his stay at the chamber.
The visiting Commander of the Army after religious observances met the lay chieftain at the premises (Diyawadana Nilame) Mr Nilanga Dela Bandara) of the temple and exchanged views on the preparations for conduct of the final pageant and so on.
He was also invited to a live television interview, beamed from the Maligawa premises, in which he spoke out of his plans for the Army and nation-building.
