Commander Pays Courtesy Calls on Field Marshal & Chief of Defence Staff

To be in line with military formalities, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Army Thursday (10) morning paid separate courtesy calls on the Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka and the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Crisanthe De Silva in their respective offices.

At first, the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake arrived at the Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka’s ministerial office at Rajagiriya. During the courtesy meeting, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, who also served as the Commander of the Army during 2005 - 2009, congratulated Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake on his new appointment and discussed a few relevant matters of importance to the national security and other concerns.

Field Marshal Fonseka who is also the Hon. Minister of Regional Development after the friendly meeting, presented a symbolic memento to the visiting Commander of the Army and wished him good luck. The gesture was reciprocated. Lieutenant General Senanayake before his exit placed his compliments in the visitors’ book at the Field Marshal’s office.

A few minutes later, Lieutenant General Senanayake called at the office of the newly-appointed Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Crisanthe De Silva who was also the Commander of the Army during 2015 - June 2017.

During his courtesy call on the CDS, the Commander of the Army exchanged views on several issues of relevance and future prospects of the Army as the biggest service-provider to the nation.

General Crisanthe De Silva extending his best wishes on Lieutenant General Senanayake’s new appointment shared a few thoughts on matters of relevance that arose during the former’s tenure of office. The cordial meet culminated with exchange of mementos.
