Commander Invites Ex-Army Personnel to Share Their Concerns

With the sole objective of harnessing resources and skills of retired Army personnel for the betterment of the organization, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army Thursday (13) afternoon, for the first time in the Headquarters history, invited a representative gathering of ex-Army personnel to the Army Headquarters for a cordial dialogue through the coordination of the Ex-Servicemen’s Association.

Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake after extending a warm welcome at the beginning spoke of numerous and indescribable services that had been rendered by those retired Army personnel towards the organization and the country at large as exemplary members of the organization.

“It is my view that although you have retired from the service, your undisputed skills and resources of immense value still remain untapped to a larger extent with the change of your vocation and living pattern after the service. The Army needs your able guidance as well as your technical expertise you amply collected from various experiences, having served in varying spheres.”

“You, having served the organization so dedicatedly for decades are now on a better footing than never before with so many welfare projects in place even after retirement. Housing loans, benevolent funds, vocational training facilities, modern health facilities, transport openings, etc are among some, to name a few. All such incentives emanated from the patronage extended by HE the President and Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary Defence who personally took initiatives in this direction at the request of the Army,” he reminded.

In his address to the gathering, the Commander of the Army mentioned that the day’s meeting, perhaps the first of its kind at the Army Headquarters, would find modalities and a mechanism to tap the wealth of those talents and experiences which would without fail help us march forward stronger as a team.

“Your further support to keep the momentum and continue day today roles in the Army with the same spirits, like the times when you all were here, will stimulate the organization as defenders of the nation,” he added.

Before the conclusion of the meeting, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayaka, Commander of the Army, handed over a cash donation of Rs 2 million towards the growth of the Ex-Servicemen’s Association to Brigadier (Retd) K.A Gnanaweera, President, Ex-Servicemen’s Association.
