Commander Inspects New Hospital Complex &;amp; Wants Workforce Provided with Facilities

Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake Friday (16) morning made a surprise visit to the Narahenpita Military Hospital complex where the country’s second largest hospital complex with 1043 beds, is fast nearing completion.

Lieutenant General Ratnayake, accompanied by several senior officers, visited the upcoming new 10-storied hospital complex site and received a comprehensive account of its construction work before touring the area.

The Commander during the visit inspected every section in the construction and took a keen interest in inquiring into the facilities, being awarded to the 700-member workforce of the project.

He spoke to a cross section of the technicians, engineers and builders, associated with the project, which is second only to the Colombo National Hospital in terms of its bed capacity.

Lieutenant General Ratnayake instructed hospital authorities to ensure maximum facilities be granted to the troops, working in the complex.

The new hospital complex with its diagnostic facilities in radiology as well as in pathology complements more space and better health care since Narahenpita Military Hospital serves as the central wing to all island-wide peripheral Army medical units.

Keen on inspecting the worksite now fast reaching completion with the blessings of the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake toured the length and breadth of the new construction during his stay in the premises.

Equipped with most modern and sophisticated MRI scanners, a roof-top chopper pad, automatic x-ray screening machinery and a host of state-of-the-art technicalities of the best quality, the new Military Hospital complex is to be entirely manned by professionally-trained Army personnel for both administrative and medical duties.

The Commander underlining the importance of proper and sustained maintenance of the new utility complex, instructed those responsible for the overall construction of the complex to adhere to expected deadlines for completion.
