Commander in His Formal Visit to CTS Ampara Interacts with All Ranks

Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Army on Thursday (28), making his first formal visit to the Combat Training School (CTS) in Ampara met a representative gathering of the staff there and exchanged views on different welfare aspects after receiving an update on the CTS training programmes.

The day’s itinerary got to a start after Brigadier Dharmasri Kahapola, Commandant, CTS and Lieutenant Colonel Udaya Serasinghe, Commanding Officer CTS warmly welcomed the visiting Army Chief on arrival there. A formal drive-past Guard Turnout at the entrance to the CTS premises saluted him in conformity with military traditions.

The presence of the Commander inside the premises received more significance when he was invited to open the new gymnasium for All Ranks in the premises after unveiling a plaque to add memories. But the Commander expressing his sentiments wanted it to be opened by a Captain serving in the CTS, on his behalf, which apparently sent shock waves and excited the organizers.

In another rare interactive gesture of friendliness and humility, the Commander soon after the opening of the new gymnasium, walked into the badminton court and joined for an exhibition badminton game with an Other Ranker in the opposite side, amid applause of the gathering.

A few minutes later, the Commander of the Army was taken round the CTS premises, enabling him to have a glimpse of the ongoing construction sites that would put up a new state-of-the-art lecture hall at the CTS for all trainees.

Major General Santhusitha Pananwala, Commander, SF-E, Major General Manoj Mudalige, General Officer Commanding 24 Division and Senior Staff Officers in the area joined the occasion with the Commander.

The visit assumed greater significance when the Commander rose to his feet to address a gathering of 24 Officers and more than 500 soldiers under training at the CTS. In his brief address, the Commander focused on the importance of training in different professional aspects of the career and maintenance of the highest standards of discipline.

During a common tea table, the Commander took time off to mingle with the gathering and inquired into their needs and other welfare measures.
