Commander Gives Hand to Woman’s Livelihood

Responding to a sympathetic appeal of an impoverished rural woman, made directly to the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Crisanthe De Silva, steps were taken by the Directorate of Agriculture and Livestock of the Army to get her a dairy cattle with its calf, worth about Rs 75,000/= to support her livelihood.

The woman from Sivakulama, Mihintale in her letter to the Commander requested his goodness to find possibilities of getting a dairy cattle for her to make a living since she does not have any other source of income. The Commander after closely considering her request instructed authorities at Kandakadu and Manik farms to buy her a cow through the funds in Army farmlands.

On Friday (19), several officers of the Kandakadu and Manik farms, headed by Colonel A.K.A.B Gunaratne, Director, Directorate of Agriculture and Livestock visited her in Sivakulama and formally handed over the cattle to the woman and her family in the presence of several of her next of kin and neighbours.

At the same occasion, 6 Sri Lanka Light Infantry troops serving the area gave the family a gift parcel of essential food items as an incentive. Veterinary reports and other formal documents, related to the donation were also provided to the recipient at the same time.

The arrangement, coordinated and organized under the supervision of the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) and the Directorate of Agriculture and Livestock was attended by Commanding Officers of the Kandakadu and Manik farms, Commanding Officer, 6 Sri Lanka Light Infantry and a few others.
