Commander Gives Away Trophies to Karate Winners

Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) martial artists, emerged Champions in the Inter Regiment Karate Championship Tournament after competing against more than 650 players, belonging to all Regiments in the Army.

Award of trophies, shields and merit awards to the winners, took place Wednesday (8) evening at Panagoda Army Gymnasium in the presence of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake as the Chief Guest.

Sri Lanka Army Karate Association, presided by Major General E.K.J.K Wijesiri, Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police (SLCMP), was behind organizing the Inter Regiment Karate Championship Tournament which drew more than 650 Karate players into action throughout the tournament.

Karate Black Belters, Lance Corporal T.G.T.C Dayanada of Sri Lanka Engineers and Private M.W.D Samanmalee of Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) Regiment, carried away trophies for overall Best Performances in Men’s and Women’s categories respectively. SLSR players were adjudged the wining team after close contests. The Chief Guest at the event presented those symbolic appreciative gifts to the winners, amidst applause and greeted them.

SLCMP and Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) players secured 2nd and 3rd slots respectively. A final show of Karate skills, staged by the cream of Karate players, brought the curtains down for the day’s event.      

Chief of Staff, Major General Chrishantha de Silva, Deputy Chief of Staff, Major General E.P de Z Abeysekara and senior officers were present at the occasion.
