Commander Enjoys Rugby Finals

The final encounter of the Inter Regiment Rugby tournament of the Army got underway at CR & FC Grounds Monday evening (11).

Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army joined others to witness the match as the Chief Guest.

Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps (SLAGSC) overpowered their rivals, Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (SLASC) 29 : 11 to win the Men’s Championship while Men’s B Division Championship was won by Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) beating Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME).

Six teams competed for Men’s A Division while ten teams fought it out in the B Division. One of the main highlights of the tournament was the participation of five women’s teams in the Championship.

The tournament ran for a period of one and a half months at Diyagama Mahinda Rajapaksa Sports Grounds.

The Women’s final between 2 Sri Lanka Army Women Corps and 3 Sri Lanka Army Women Corps was won by 3 Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (3 SLAWC).

Lieutenant General Jayasuriya distributed the awards for the winners, accompanied by Army Rugby Committee Chairman Brigadier Rohana Bandara.
