Commander Encourages Participants in Multi-Coloured Inter Regiment Drill, Band & Pace Sticks Competition - 2018

The award of trophies to the winners and participants in the Inter Regiment Drill, Band and Pace sticks competition finals, one of the most spectacular routine displays of the Sri Lanka Army, got underway at Panagoda Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) Regiment ground on Tuesday (18) evening before a mammoth gathering, headed by Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Army as the Chief Guest.

The colour-rich Drill Display that testifies to the high standards of discipline among members of the Army took the center-stage in the programme to a thundering applause as the first item on the day’s itinerary with all participants took to parading, saluting the day's Chief Guest.

Similarly, the band display and the drill instructors' pace stick spectacles that began next made the event more attractive and interesting as they walked past, dressed in elegant costumes.

In the Inter Regiment Drill competition, the Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) was adjudged the Best and the 1st while 2nd and 3rd places were won by Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE) and Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) teams respectively. The women’s category, competed by three separate teams, 2 from Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) and 1 from Sri Lanka Army Corps of Military Police women’s teams, gave the win to the Team 'A' of the SLAWC who shone securing the 1st place in Drills.

In the Band pace sticks competition, contested by 20 teams, again the Sri Lanka National Guard band players won the 1st place in a convincing spectacle. 2nd and 3rd places were awarded to Gemunu Watch and Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment teams respectively.

The 1st place in the Band competition meanwhile was secured by Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps (SLAGSC) team while the 2nd and 3rd places were respectively won by Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE) and Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA) players.

Warrant Officer, I. K Chinthaka of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers clinched the first place in the Best Drummer category while Lieutenant K.T.M Kahawalage of Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps was selected as the Best Platoon Commander (women's). Captain H. Ariyarathna of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers became the Best Platoon Commander (Male) and the award for the Best Drill instructor went to the Staff Sergeant S. Sumathipala of Sri Lanka National Guards.

The climax of the day’s events was the presentation of trophies, medals and certificates to the Best teams, Best platoon leaders, both men and women in respective drill platoons and leaders in the Best Band display teams. The day's Chief Guest, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake gave away those symbolic mementos and certificates to the achievers and specific teams and congratulated each and every achiever and team.

The day's Chief Guest, Commander of the Army on arrival was received by Major General Shavendra Silva, Adjutant General of the Army where the Chief Guest was greeted to a Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour before the day's itinerary got to a start. The Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, made a brief address to the occasion and extended his best wishes for brighter prospects in future.

A gathering of Senior Officers including Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana, Deputy Chief of Staff, Major General Rukmal Dias, Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Major General Sathyapriya Liyanage, Commander, Security Forces - West, Major General Shavendra Silva, Adjutant General and Major General Devinda Perera, Director General Personnel Administration witnessed the spectacle. bridge media | Nike Shoes, Clothing & Accessories
