Commander Commends Retiring Major General Dammika Jayasundara's Service

One of the proud soldiers, produced by the Army's Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR), after transfer of Regiment from the Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI), Major General Dammika Jayasundara, General Officer Commanding of the 23 Division on the eve of his retirement from the Army was invited by the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva to his office at the AHQ on Wednesday (28) where the latter commended the retiring Senior Officer's dedicated services to the Army for more than three decades.

Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva during the brief interaction refreshed memories over his varied services and shared a couple of views with the retiring Major General Dammika Jayasundara who has served a number of key appointments in the Army and the Mechanized Infantry Regiment in particular.

The outgoing Senior Officer also thanked the Commander of the Army for his wishes and the thoughtfulness while mentioning about the encouragement he received from the Army Chief in the performance of his duties. Towards the end of the interaction, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva awarded a special memento to the retiree as a symbol of appreciation and commendation.
