Commander-in-Chief Inquires into Well-being of Senapura GR War Heroes

HE the President Maithripala Sirisena on Monday (25) flew to the Headquarter Battalion of the Gajaba Regiment (GR) in Senapura and inquired into well-being of permanently injured but differently-able Gajaba War Heroes who are undergoing rehabilitation and recuperation in this Army camp.

Major General Shavendra Silva, Colonel of the Regiment of the Gajaba Regiment and Chief of Staff extended a warm welcome and accorded a drive-pass salute upon his arrival in the camp.

President during his stay visited the wards and spoke to the inmates and made inquiries into the progress of their rehabilitated medical conditions and recuperation process. He spoke to some of them whose permanent injuries remain incurable and inquired into their needs, if any.

It was only on Saturday (23), those inmates turned the beneficiaries of a fully-fledged new therapeutic swimming pool, declared opened and vested in them as one of the most vital need for therapeutic practices. (See separate story in Features)

President added memories to his visit to the Senapura camp by planting a sapling by the side of the new Swimming Pool, designed for hydrotherapy. Likewise, the President gave away some symbolic gift parcels to those physically handicapped War Heroes.

The new swimming pool (25m x 18 m) with 8 lanes was gifted to valiant Gajaba War Heroes by Ladies Chapter of the Chamber of Young Lankan Entrepreneurs (COYLE), chaired by Mrs Shehani Piyasena at the request of Mrs Sujeewa Nelson, the Chairperson of the Gajaba Seva Vanitha Unit. The civil community in the area also had an opportunity to interact with the visiting President and share a few thoughts.

After sitting for a group photograph, the visiting Head of the State was honoured by the inmate, Corporal P.M.R.S Paranamanna of 14 GR after presenting a souvenir of aesthetic value, produced by himself to the visiting Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
