Commander, Chief Guest at Mahamaya Girls’ College ‘Colours Night’

Mahamayavians at Kandy, Mahamaya Girls’ College, one of the most prominent Buddhist girls’ schools in the island staged their spectacle of the year, ‘Colours Night’ on Friday (26) inviting Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Army as the Chief Guest for the occasion.

The Principal, teachers and members of the college sports committee, together with a group of girl cadets welcomed the day’s Chief Guest on arrival at the premises before he was conducted to the main auditorium for proceedings.

At the invitation of the authorities, the Commander of the Army gave away trophies and certificates to the achievers in sports in the year 2017 amid thundering applause during the event.

In his address to the gathering, the Commander reminded them of the importance of commitment to sports which would help shape the future trends of one’s life as one grows up.

Mahamaya Girls' College, Kandy was established in 1932 as the first Buddhist girls’ college in the central province along with the Buddhist revival that was on during that era.
