Commander Attends Special Meeting at District Secretariat to Evaluate Army Contribution

A special appraisal meeting of all stakeholders, involved in the ongoing ‘Pibidemu Polonnaruwa’ (Awakening of Polonnaruwa) project, took place this afternoon (27) at the District Secretariat in Polonnaruwa, for which the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake has also been invited considering the contribution, being made by Army troops at different levels.

The meeting, attended by a large gathering of state officials involved in the Polonnaruwa district development project evaluated the status quo and the remainder to be completed in the coming years.

The Commander saw for himself a presentation, submitted by the Project Director during the meeting. Attendees also commended the support, being extended by the Army in an efficient manner for completion of these development projects in the district.

The Commander assured the officials of the continuous support of the Army to the ongoing projects and shared a couple of views with the officials as regards several aspects of the implementation of those assignments.

‘Pibidemu Polonnaruwa’ District Development Project commenced recently, under the patronage of HE the President Maithripala Sirisena as a five-year long project, themed, ‘Siya Vasaka Dura Dakina Pas Vasaka Diga Heruma’ (Five Year Plan visualizing a period of a century).

Under the programme, all infrastructural facilities, including road networks, agricultural sector, education, health, environment, electricity, technological sphere, economic sector, constructions and housing, etc are to be developed giving the benefits of such dividends to low-income groups civilians in Polonnaruwa.

A few days ago, HE the President, symbolizing the launch of the project laid the foundation stone for a new class room building at Aralaganwila - Vilayaya Madya Maha Vidyalaya.

Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, Security Force Commander - West, Major General Nandana Senadeera, Security Force Commander - East, Senior Officers and Government Officials were also associated with the meeting on Friday (27).
