Commander & All Ranks Contribute to ‘National Physical Fitness Week’

With the intention of promoting awareness in physical fitness among members of the Army, a physical training programme, headed by the Commander of the Army, got underway Monday (6) morning at Muththukumaru ground inside the Panagoda Army Cantonment.

Organized by the Directorate of Army Sports on the directions of the Director General Army Sports, the event that took place early in the morning was graced by Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, Commander of the Army as the Chief Guest, along with Major General R.V Udawatte, Deputy Chief of Staff and a host of senior officers, officers and other ranks.

Raising of National and Army flags by the Commander of the Army and Major General R.V Udawatte respectively, followed by a brief address of the Commander to the occasion, set the stage ready for commencement of physical training rounds.

More than 1000 Army personnel, including Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, Commander, Security Forces-West, senior officers, officers, non-commissioned officers, other ranks and members of different Army sport teams participated in the programme at Panagoda.
