Coconut Research Institute, Impressed with SFHQ-J Coconut Cultivation Project

A team of experts of the Coconut Research Institute, Lunuwila, impressed with the initiatives that have been adopted by the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) for cultivation of 100,000 coconut saplings in the peninsula before the end of 2018, conducted a survey on the project's success and the feasibility after visiting respective areas on Monday (19).

By mid of June this year, troops of the SFHQ-J on the instructions of Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, Commander, SF-J succeeded in planting more than 6000 coconut seedlings along the coastal belt on an experiment basis but found that those saplings were growing well, prompting the SFHQ-J to continue with the project.

In line with the government's ongoing ‘Api Wawamu - Rata Nagamu’ national drive, the SFHQ-J has requested the Coconut Research Institute, Lunuwila to assist the project by evaluating and recommending necessary measures.

Five experts in Coconut Research Institute (CRI), Lunuwila, together with the Chairman at CRI at the invitation of the SFHQ-J visited those areas and conducted the feasible study and the evaluation.

The team expressed their happiness towards the project and pledged their assistance in the future too.
