Civilians & All Ranks Compete in 55 Division New Year Games & Sports

55 Division troops of the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) added their contribution to the conduct of a New Year festival at Iyyakachchi public grounds on Friday (21) with the sponsorship received from the Nestle Lanka (Pvt) Ltd.

The event, one more attempt to promote harmony, reconciliation and friendliness between members of the Security Forces and the civilians was made a reality on the directions of Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna and had a variety of games and other fun-making events throughout the day.

Brigadier M.A.S.K, Muhandiram, General Officer Commanding, 55 Division as the Chief Guest, inaugurated the day’s sequence of events.

Traditional and merry-making games and collective competitions, typical of New Year times, dominated throughout the day’s arrangement, attended by Rev Fr A.V Silvesterdas of Pulopalai St Peter’s Church, Rev Prabha, Hindu Priest at Pulopalai Kovil, representatives of sponsors, OIC at Palai Police Station, Palai and Kilinochchi People’s Bank Managers, school principals, state officials, Gramaseva officials, scores of villagers and civilians around the camp premises, Officers, All Ranks, family members of All Ranks of the 55 Division and many other leading citizens in the area.

The New Year festival at 55 Division reached its apex as the dusk fell when the Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police musical band and the Jaffna’s Ragashruthi musicians, entertained the crowds with rhythmic beats and varying melodies in Tamil, Sinhala and English languages.

District Secretary for Kilinochchi, Mr Sundaram Arumenalagam and Divisional Secretary for Palai, Ms D Jayarani were among special invitees to the musical evening. Gifts were also awarded to the winners in different New Year games and competitions towards the end of the event.
