Christian Congregation Blesses Forward-March of the Army

Divine blessings were invoked on the successful forward-march of the Sri Lanka Army in a solemn ceremony, held this afternoon (2) at All Saints’ Church, Borella in connection with the forthcoming 69th Army Anniversary and the Army Day (Oct 10).

This special Christian service, one more segment of the series of multi-religious ceremonies, now underway to bless the Army, was graced by Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Army as the Chief Guest along with Mrs Chandrika Senanayake, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit.

A large gathering of Army Officers and their family members joined the prayer session and the service, led by Rev Fr. Anton Jayakody, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Colombo.

On arrival at the congregation, Major General Haren Perera, Chairman, Christian Fellowship and Major General Ralph Nugera, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 14 Division welcomed the day’s Chief Guest.

Organized by the Army Christian Fellowship, Brigadier Manjula Karunaratne, Secretary to the Army Christian Fellowship afterwards delivered a brief welcome speech and spelt out the theme of the day’s service. The day’s special thanks-giving ceremony was officiated after an introduction that spoke of the greatness of Lord Jesus.

Rev Benedict Joseph, Chaplain of the Army Christian Fellowship delivered an introductory sermon, highlighting the importance of the occasion and inviting everyone to join hymns, sung in praise of the Lord.

The service reached its apex and the stage was set. Blessings were then symbolically invoked on the Commander of the Army and all serving members, Army Flag, all Regimental Flags and all representative flags after the soldiers respectfully brought them in and placed them at the foot of the altar.

Around the same time, the holy congregation prayed for the souls of all fallen War Heroes in the battlefields and elsewhere while simultaneously invoking blessings on all injured Army personnel, still recovering and those who are serving as well as members of the families of all Army personnel.

Members of the clergy from All Saints’ Church, Borella, Baptist Church, Methodist Church and Anglican Church jointly officiated the day’s service and invoked blessings.

As has been the tradition, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Army after culmination of the special service on behalf of all in the Army made a financial donation towards the development of the holy premises.

Army Christian Fellowship, together with a large gathering of Army personnel, spouses and family members attended the special prayer service.latest jordan Sneakers | Ανδρικά Nike
