Chinese National Defence Minister Calls on HE President Mahinda Rajapaksa after Army Salute

General Liang Guanglie, State Councillor and Minister of National Defence of People’s Republic of China (PRC) who is now in Sri Lanka on a five day official visit paid a courtesy call on HE President, Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The visiting Chinese Minister of National Defence was warmly welcomed by President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees.

Exchange of mementos and posing for a group photo took place before the end of the meeting.

Prof. G.L Peiris, Minister of External Affairs, Minister C.B Rathnayaka and Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Air Chief Marshal Roshan Goonetillake, was also in attendance during General Guanglie is meeting with the President Rajapaksa.

Meanwhile, in conformity with military traditions, the visiting Chinese General Liang Guanglie, was accorded a Guard of Honour by Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) troops of the Sri Lanka Army at MoD grounds Wednesday (29) afternoon soon after he was warmly received by Minister of External Affairs Prof. G.L Peiris at the venue in the company of CDS and tri-service Commanders.

Minutes after the salute, General Liang Guanglie, introduced members of his visiting delegation to Hon Minister G.L Piries, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Air Chief Marshal Roshan Goonetillake, Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral D.W.A.S. Dissanayake, Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal H.D Abeywickrama as a formality.

Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya ushered the visiting Chinese Defence Minister to receive the Guard of Honour after Prof, G.L Peiris, Minister of External Affairs welcomed him.
