Children of SF Families, Given Incentives for Studies


Sri Lanka Army’s one of the most admired fighting units, Special Forces (SF) received recognition once more when its War Heroes’ children and disable soldiers were offered incentives by way of scholarships and appreciation, thanks to the monetary grants made available by the United Motors Ltd, at the request of the Special Forces Seva Vanitha Unit.

Monday’s (2) ceremony at Defence Services College auditorium for distribution of those scholarships and appreciative tokens was presided by Major General Sumedha Perera, Colonel of the Regiment SF at the invitation of Mrs Himashi Perera, Chairperson, SF Seva Vanitha Unit.

Mr Chanaka Yatawara, Manager, United Motors Ltd represented the donor company by sponsoring Rs 1.2 m worth scholarships for children of SF War Heroes during this ceremony.

Accordingly, 100 War Heroes’ children got the deposit of Rs 12,000/= in a pass book which can be used for their educational purposes until they reach the age of 18 years.

Prior to the main ceremony, an art exhibition of the children got underway at the same premises in order to encourage those children for aesthetics talents.

Meanwhile, an exhibition of wooden and metal crafted table lamps produced solely by disable SF War Heroes, was kept for display at the same venue.

SF Seva Vanitha expects to find a market for those lamps in the future.

A special memento was also present on the same occasion to Warrant Officer, B.W.G Jayantha who had composed the theme song of the SF.

A gathering of SF senior officers, members of the SF Seva Vanitha Unit, Ranaviru family members and a representative together attended the ceremony.
